With half of her face missing it's almost impossible to see the young woman as anything other than damaged, broken and perhaps too far gone for repair. Through the process of conservation and restoration we're able to undo that damage, return her to a proud state, enable the artist's vision to reign; work that results in lifting the veil.

Restoring A Torn Oval Portrait ASMR
Просмотров 64 тыс.21 день назад
There's something about the preciousness, innocence and pure joy (in between bouts of hysterical madness and nerve wracking fury) about the early years of childhood. Something fleeting and intangible like the wind; able to stand one's hairs upon end and yet gone before we can quantify it. Captured in oil on canvas yet pierced with a wretched tear this painting was once, and will be again a test...

14:43 I always love when people take things like this to experts because the experts know what they are doing, but then don’t listen to the expert’s advice. As if the client all of the sudden became an expert of art restoration and knows more than you do.
What was that piano 🎹 piece towards the end of this video? ❤❤
enjoyed this length of video so much more. love the work you do.
Erik Satie is a perfect combination for this restoration
Amazing touch up!!!
Je ne me lasse pas de regarder votre travail, bien que je ne comprenne pas l'anglais. Un beau métier d'art. Vous êtes un maître. Merci merci beaucoup
Amazing work Julian!😲

I came back to say he gave those tacks the hawck tuah
WOW🤩
The famous restoration failure of the portrait "Ecce Homo", in Borja, Spain, is being considered an unexpected heritage to the point that studies are being done to restore the original work but preserve the restoration painting by creating a separate second work. Some advocated restoring it to its original state, removing Cecilia Giménez's intervention, to preserve the artistic integrity of the original painting. This approach would aim to return the work to its initial form before amateur restoration.
My mother got a painting from a local painter lady. She chose from some canvases that the artist had already finished. It was a very ordinary bowl of flowers but the colors didn’t quite match my mother’s color scheme. She asked the artist to paint over parts to be a better match. Maybe the un matched background color was some new owner wanted a new color scheme. I inherited my mother’s painting. It had never impressed me and it was a little too small for where she used it over the mantle. I kept the frame.
Hmm. I don't think the paintings were that good originally, so restoring them twice seems excessive.
You nailed it! They looked like someone painted toy dolls rather than real people.
My goodness. Who would do such a thing..
Could be done by Mr Bean…
That ad transition was SMOOTH
Yes
Like the Satie. Nice choice.
What sort of watch do you wear?
"Them's the breaks." Julian is drolly hysterical!
Why are the backs of some paintings cleaned and some not? Customer perference? Or not all of them need it?
It was so good to see Kit retouching and hearing how much respect you have for her and her work. I think this is my favourite video so far but I always say that.
What a gift to watch you build that face. Blows me away.
Hello, you are a very good painting restorer. I watched several of your canvas restorations . You are a very good icon preserver. Do you know how to work the woods, impressed that you are using the ironing tool technique - which I invented 35 years or more ago ………😂🫣 You did an excellent job adding the wood, separating/preparing the ground before you painted. You used a decent modern medium to add the color ... yet you left the icon kind of "dead'. At the very end - the icon painter/writer (the master) kind of breathed life into the images by adding two tiny dots to each eye. I was wondering if you're going to notice the missing "livelihood"… You did not❤😢 Oh well, there's always an next time🎉
Wow, watching you reveal the real face was amazing.
Fabulous restoration.
You do amazing work I really admire the Time and dedication you put into EACH PAINTING
Wow, that first so-called "restorer" couldn't even paint within the lines. Something you learn to do in primary school.
While that’s definitely Bratislava in the background, when this painting first saw the light of day, Slovakia was Upper Hungary and Slovaks were a minority in the city - Germans and Hungarians outnumbered them - so unless this is a family piece, there’s no real way to determine the ethnicity of the bride.
Julian is incredibly handsome
How does one become an Art restorer? This job sounds so fulfilling and satisfying.
I javent slept yet and its 7 in the morning lol
You're the best. ❤❤❤
End of video.. BLOODY AMAZING
At 16:00 when you reveal the original painting it gave the whole painting a very peaceful happy feel unlike prior it felt sad and gloomy, such a great job. Just found your channel and started looking at your videos. Well done and thank you for restoring these amazing works.
Big fan of your work but curiosity abounds, does fish glue smell? Are there paintings that you say no and what are the parameters you set? Thx for all the great videos
i cant be the only one who thinks this looks like jenna oretega
I’m wondering now…I’m sure,nFar after others have wondered…But, Could it have been a larger portrait?….It also seems not centered?…
Jesus that grime and oxidized varnish or something else. 😮 I don't know if I've seen a painting so affected by old varnish and dirt. I couldn't even tell what style it really was. The color choice was so striking!
Aspiring conservator/restorer undergrad here. I would LOVE if you someday talk about how long it took you to get job placement including internship and school. I would prefer to be self employed privately or be an assistant instead of museum work like you are. But I know it’s such a difficult field to get into.
Your stock went up today watching your video. It’s nice to see a professional with ethics like yours. You are an inspiration, thank you
Oh.. no beard! I was not expecting that! Catching up on your older videos lol
Perfectly Ruined. It's absolutely stunning!
